The fort battles took a little while to get underway, so in the corner you can see Puck & I (Walter Robin) getting a fight started. We quickly had a few fighters join us, until we had a rolling team battle going. We had 7 - 9 fighters, playing 3 on 3 or 4 on 4, where the odd man out rolls back into a team as soon as someone is killed. This was actually some of the best fun I had at the war. |
| That is me in the teal doublet & white shirt sleeves, with baldrick and striped socks. Godfrey (Edward Mercer's brother) is next to me in the morion, and is an excellent melee partner. I dropped my sword poking around the corner at our attackers (hit my target though!), and so was stuck in a defensive role. We held the sally port against a large rush of their best fighters, although I will admit that we were quite amply staffed at the sally port. | ![]() |

After we blunted their assault, we were ordered to sally forward and hit their flanks. We met with small pockets of resistance, usually to our advantage. |

The final town battle was a courier run. The attacking team was supposed to move a flag out an exit point on our side of town. I am in the middle of the defending pack on the bridge.
Near the end of the battle, I thought that I should redeploy to another bridge since we had them outnumbered and they weren't pressing us. I glanced over to the other bridge, and the instant I looked away, Edward Mercer tagged me in the hand. I saw that the other bridge was being breached, and I withdrew to reinforce. But it was too late, and I was alone. The attackers made it through! Photo by Ly Helene Quivremont (Alicia Whitecotton) |
